About us

Helsinki Thaiboxing Club ry – HTBC is an athletic club established in 1989 and specialized in thaiboxing. We are a member of the Finnish Muay Thai association.

HTBC’s own gym is centrally located in the district of Kallio in Helsinki and easily accessible by public transport. The 500m2 gym offers spacious changing rooms and showers, a boxing ring, a padded flooring for training, kicking pads, punching bags, punching mitts, kettlebells, weight plates and dumbbells – anything you might need for a diverse and hard practice, whether you were a combat professional or a beginner.

The club has a long history in the Finnish thaiboxing scene and its development. Over the years HTBC has produced top-level competitors both nationally and internationally. The club may be regarded as Finland’s most successful thai boxing club of all times.

Above all, we offer opportunities for amateurs to practice thaiboxing in the guidance of top coaches. The goal of HTBC is to offer its members of all levels as much guided practice as possible. This is why HTBC offers training seven days a week – a service no other club in Finland offers.

All of our coaches speak English and our members include many non-Finnish speakers.

If you have questions concerning our club or its membership, please contact us by phone 040-5286932 or by e-mail info@htbc.fi. We are glad to answer any questions you might have!

Training groups

HTBC offers plenty of opportunities to train, whether you're a beginner or an experienced fighter. If you have never trained thaiboxing before, our Basic course is the place to be! If you have some experience but are not sure which group you should join, feel free to e-mail or call, and we'll sort it out!

Basic course - alkeiskurssi

There is no sparring or heavy contact, but we use pads and punchbags. You will need: a t-shirt, gym pants or shorts. We train barefoot. During the basic course, you can also take part in morning practice described on the right.

Technique & Pads / Early Morning - Tekniikka ja Väline

This training is open to all HTBC members, including those attending the basic course. You will need: shin guards, bag gloves and boxing gloves. We also recommend groin protectors and mouth guards.

Technique & Pads /Late Morning / Evening - Tekniikka ja Väline

Sparring - Sparritreenit

This is the group for anyone who wants to get into the fight ring. We train hard and aim to make sure all of us will get to compete. You will need full equipment: boxing and bag gloves, elbow pads, shin guards, mouth guard and groin protection, as well as a skip rope. We also recommend the use of protective headgear.

Technique & physics / tekniikka ja fysiikka, Mon, Wed & Fri at 6.30 am

This class is meant to support thaiboxing training. In this class we practice for example explosiveness by jumping, throwing etc. Also, we practice body strenght and balance with weights and rubber bands. The aim of this practice is to improve the skills and capacity needed in thaiboxing.

To attend this class you need clothes suitable for sports and water bottle.

In this group for women we safely train the basic techniques of thaiboxing. Punches, kicks, and and combinations are practiced with a partner using thai-pads. Occasionally, we train with higher intensity. There is no sparring in this group. Required gear includes boxing gloves, appropriate workout clothes and a water bottle.

Ladythai-group is held by coaches who are trained to coach martial arts. Each instructor has their own style of teaching and this is adding valuable variety to the sessions. Welcome all women from all levels to join us for trainings!

Juniors - junnuthai

For juniors aged 8-12. The junior group learns the basic techniques of Muay Thai through games, play and fun exercise. There is no sparring in the beginners class, with advanced trainers we practice technical sparring with very light contact.

Thaiboxing is a great sport for kids: you will learn body balance, social skills and self-confidence, and get to let our energy in a safe and controlled environment. You will need: boxing gloves, shinguards, t-shirt, shorts and water bottle. First class is for beginners and second is for advanced juniors. Our specially trained junior coaches are Pekka Orivuori and Katja Karisalmi.
